  1. Short: Three Super72 Replacement Monitors
  2.  
  3. Here are three replacements for the Super72 monitor driver.
  4.  
  5. One increases the refresh rate to 83Hz and the scan rate to 27.22 kHz,
  6. allowing an 800x600 pixel screen and minimal flicker.
  7.  
  8. The second offers 77Hz and 26.33kHz, respectively, allowing an 832x628 
  9. screen, but slightly more flicker.
  10.  
  11. The third offers 85Hz and 30.5kHz, which most VGA monitors should be
  12. able to display easily.  This is at the cost of reducing visible
  13. resolution to 704x628.
  14.  
  15. It is up to you which one you use.  Your choice can be made on how
  16. much screen you want, how much flicker you can stand, and what
  17. specs your monitor can handle.
  18.  
  19. Some VGA, and maybe the 1940/42, monitors may now be able to show 
  20. this monitor.  You may want to check your monitor specs before you
  21. try this, but if you do try it and get no recognisable picture just 
  22. reset the computer ASAP to prevent monitor damage.
  23. It works fine on my NEC 3D (which was able to show the original
  24. Super 72 anyway).

  26. I used a WB3.1 monitor driver as a basis for this driver.
  27. (from CBM's upgrade distribution, which you should also download
  28. if you have KS3.0 - pub/aminet/os30/util/Monitor30Patch.lha)

  30. I am not sure if it works under less than KS3.0, but copying the
  31. tooltypes from this icon into the WB2.1 Super72 monitor icon
  32. should work.

  34. Remember, it's the tooltypes that make the difference, not the 
  35. monitor code itself.

  39. Installation:
  40.  
  41. 1.  Rename your favoured monitor to "Super72".
  42.  
  43. 2.  Copy the Super72 monitor and (especially) its icon into the 
  44.     devs/monitors drawer, copying over the existing one if necessary
  45.      - use drag and drop, or use DirOpus, etc. etc.
  46.  
  47. 3.  Reboot the Computer.
  48.  
  49. 4.  Change your screenmode, to Super72.  Do not SAVE but USE instead 
  50.     (just in case it doesn't work).
  51.     Boom, crash, bang - less flicker(!)
  52.  
  53. 5.  If you have no recognisable picture it may be because your monitor does
  54.     not support frequencies as low as 26.33kHz or refresh rates as high
  55.     as 85Hz.  My NEC 3D seems to work at over 100Hz easily, even though
  56.     the specs only say 90.

  58. 6.  If your monitor can display the screenmode then:
  59.     Load Overscan prefs and set the Super72 screen size to be exactly 
  60.     800x600 or 832x628 depending on what monitor driver your have
  61.     chosen to use - even if it appears as though the full 800/832 pixel 
  62.     width will not be visible.  Super72_VGA should be set to 800x628.
  63.     Save the Prefs.
  64.     NOTE: If using Super72_VGA, you must also set your Screenmode prefs
  65.     to a Width of 704 pixels.  You may also have to slide the screen
  66.     to the left (with the mouse) to display the entire screen.
